These brands have become recognizable thanks to many buyers and supporters of these medicines. Many have left thousands of reviews on forums and videos sharing their experiences.

They are also actively advertised on television and the Internet. Both drugs are known for their effectiveness in the fight against obesity and overweight. And both drugs seem very similar. However, what is their difference? Which drug wins in comparison: Wegovy or Semaglutide? In this article, we will tell you in detail about each drug’s benefits and explain their differences.

Why are Wegovy and Semaglutide often compared?

Both medicines are GLP-1 receptor agonists. They repeat the work of the natural hormone GLP-1, which is produced in the human body after eating. This hormone performs several tasks:

  • Sends a signal to brain receptors, informing about the degree of satiety and fullness of the stomach;
  • Stimulates insulin secretion in the pancreas;
  • It affects the concentration of glucose in the blood.

Semaglutide and Wegovy have a positive effect on the biochemical reactions of the body. These medications restore insulin secretion and healthy gluconeogenesis in the body, affecting the digestive tract and slowing down the emptying of the stomach and intestines. They reduce appetite, leading to less high-calorie food consumption.

These drugs are recognized as a universal solution for type 2 diabetes, which occurs with obesity or an increased body mass index. They solve the problem of insulin deficiency and rid the body of the problem that leads to diabetes – excess fat in the body cells.

What is the difference between Wegovy and Semaglutide?

These medications have the same active ingredient – semaglutide. Both drugs are produced by the Danish company Novo Nordisk. Despite the almost 95% similarity of the chemical composition of these medicines, the manufacturer prescribes each medication to different groups of people:

  • Semaglutide – primarily for people with type 2 diabetes.
  • Wegovy – for the treatment of overweight and obesity.

At the same time, as numerous studies show, both drugs demonstrate high effectiveness in a long course of weight loss. These drugs are especially effective if, in addition to taking injections, you practice a balanced meal, increase physical activity, control sleep and use practices to restore mental health.

In addition to the difference in prescriptions, these medications differ in dosages. Wegovy has an increased concentration of the active ingredient. The standard dose of Wegovy injections is 2.5mg, while the most significant dose of Semaglutide for single use is 1.0mg.

Both drugs should be started with a dosage of 0.25 mg. At the same time, the dosage of Semaglutide injections is rarely increased by more than 0.5mg, whereas for Wegovy, this dosage is used in the second month of therapy.

Conclusion

Whichever you choose, Semaglutide or Wegovy, keep in mind that they contain the same active ingredient – semaglutide. Both medicines can make losing excess body fat easier and switch to healthy habits. These injectable medications must be used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve the BMI and glycemic control in people with 2nd type diabetes.

Wegovy consists of more active ingredient volume and is prescribed for people whose organism shows excellent tolerance to semaglutide. Both medicines have an escalating dosage schedule that starts with a 0.25mg dosage. Semaglutide peak dosage is 1.00mg while Wegovy – 2.4mg.

Also, it would be best if you remembered the other fact that differs Wegovy – it is prescribed for weight loss, while Semaglutide is for the 2nd type of diabetes therapy. Both medicines are an efficient aid for people with weight-related medical problems to help them lose weight and keep it off.
